Bryony Whistlecraft

Wanderer of wuthering moors and woodlands wild. My home and heart lies in Yorkshire and my work aims to evoke the folklore, landscape and heritage from which I draw endless inspiration. Mooredge in the Mist is my ode to the stories that this land has to tell. Whispers from old stones, bones, beck and beyond …read more

  • Joining in with #aprilfae while also taking a social media break doesn't really work (funnily enough!), but I knew I had to join in with today's prompt of Harebell. There's no puns, nothing clever - just a straight up photo of lovely harebells I took last August that have been waiting for the right time to post!
Go visit @liselotte_eriksson and @naominowak and the #aprilfae tag for lots of fae loveliness!

  • I'm feeling increasingly disinclined towards posting on social media, and what with the woods beginning to green again and the sun shining I'd much rather be outdoors than staring at a little screen.

Wouldn't it be much nicer to get together over a cup of tea in real life. I can't offer you any crackers smothered in wild garlic pesto though, because I've just finished it off...

  • Sometimes I don't believe I'm really an artist, but when I see my photography brought together like this I'm pretty damn proud of what I have created.

  • The in-laws have moved to Scarborough, which means free seaside holidays forever more. I currently can't feel my fingers after a bracing walk on the sea front in thick fog. If only I had had some chips and was mugged by seagulls, it would have been the quintessential British seaside experience.
Tips for interesting things to do in and around Scarborough gratefully received! I'm very excited so far about the Pre-raphaelite church!

  • Oh British Museum you are so lovely 💚 Wonderful architecture and you make the hubbub of London fall away to a calm murmur... And you're full of mummies and other exciting things!

  • Yes, I know how thoroughly sickening we are, but there you go. Sometimes you've just got to pretend you're in a romantic novel...

  • Top Withens, not half as dramatic as the Wuthering Heights described in the novel. That was likely an amalgamation of other houses and Emily's own imagination. Although High Sunderland Hall near Halifax did bear a great resemblance to Wuthering Heights, not least in the carvings of grotesques and 'shameless little boys' on the porch. High Sunderland has long since been demolished but you can still find those carvings in the grounds of Shibden Hall.

  • The path to Top Withens... See that tree and dark shape on the horizon...

Spring is sprung! Despite the snow that still fills shady corners the daffodils are emerging and the fresh green leaves are shining brightly in the sun.
